IS JESSICA SUMMERS THE GIRL ON THE BRIDGE?
Those who were close to her described her as a sweet girl who lived a difficult life. They say she was constantly trying to make those around her happy. She was happiest when you were smiling.
Her story starts at the age of 10 when her uncle was brutally murdered in his sleep. He was living with Jessica’s family at the time, and she was the one who found him. The police report hints at a scene too gruesome for words.
His body was found in pieces that had been tossed carelessly around the room. His head had been left propped up on the bed, eyes bulging, mouth screaming, and skin purple from lack of oxygen… –APD, 2005
The ensuing police investigation found Jessica’s father guilty of murder. In his testimony, he said that her uncle had been abusing Jessica’s three-year-old brother, Tommy. No evidence was found to prove his accusations, and due to the extremity of the murder he was sentenced to life in prison.
He committed suicide 6 months later.
Jessica and Tommy spent the next few years coping with the situation, and their mother had to send them to a therapist for “schizophrenic delusions.” Tommy had begun to see figures in his bedroom that he said looked like his dad and uncle. Jessica reported seeing the same things.
On Tommy’s 7th birthday he disappeared in his sleep. He was never found.
Propelled by her brother’s disappearance, Jessica spent her teenage years learning about the paranormal. In the summer of 2016 she visited a remote village in Peru known for its connection with the afterlife. Rumor has it that during this trip she was reunited with her brother during a dangerous ceremony that opens a gateway between the dead and the living.
She returned on August 14th, 2016 with a ceramic figurine that was said to house the evils that she had brought into the world when she opened the gateway. For the month after she returned from her trip, her friends and mother said that she had never seemed happier. Jessica described her feelings in a Facebook status on September 16th as
…one with the world. I have never felt more connected to my inner self, and more enthusiastic to be among the living.
The incident took place on September 17th, 2016. That same night she disappeared without a trace.
There were no further leads on her case until the mysterious sightings at the University of New Mexico Duck Pond. College students, who had made a game out of recording themselves walking across the duck pond bridge blindfolded, began to see the apparent apparition of a girl behind them.
The mystery of Jessica Summers is still unsolved, but you can learn more about her in the short film Die Together.
